Frida ia a fiberglass statue of a pitbull painted by Lynn Hetherington Becker in the style of Mexican folk art and Dia de los Muertos. The statue was donated to Friends of the Shelter, an organization in Columbus, OH. The statue was part of the auction PupArt 2020. PupArt raises money to pay for the care and medical costs of the dogs in Franklin County Animal Shelter. The proceeds of the sale of Frida went entirely to this cause.
Friends of the Shelter is an all-volunteer group of local individuals who donate their time to the day-to-day operations of the organization. Additionally, the volunteers plan and coordinate fundraising events, marketing, and public relations projects and provide accounting and legal guidance. As an all-volunteer group, the organization is able to keep overhead very low, allowing over 95% of donations to help our needy Shelter dogs.
With continued support from the community, Friends of the Shelter is able to fund the medical care of approximately 350 dogs every year!
